Clare has been a Sports Physiotherapist for more than 20 years working with athletes of all levels.
She has represented Australia as a team physiotherapist at three Olympics games including two Winter Games and one Summer Games. In addition she worked with the Sydney Swans for 16 years. She has also worked with Cricket NSW, Australian Women’s Water Polo team and the Australian Paralympic Football team (Pararoos). This has lead to expertise in all acute and chronic sporting injuries but in particular more complex cases relating to hips, knees and shoulders.
Her passion for physiotherapy extends to teaching Clinical Pilates and functional strength programs and she adopts a holistic and goal orientated approach with every patient she sees.
We asked Clare a few questions about her career, expertise and passions:
What led you to Elevate?
I was keen to return to practice in the CBD and have known Matt McCutcheon professionally for about 7 years.
What are your core beliefs about wellness and health?
Health is wealth and everybody should be encouraged to look after him or herself and be supported with the tools to help them do so. Sleep, hydration, nutrition and a balanced exercise regime are important factors in a healthy lifestyle.
What is your area of expertise?
Sports injuries including hip, knee and shoulder. Lower limb tendon rehabilitation including glute and Achilles tendinopathy, and I love exercise based treatment. I also teach Pilates, core stability and functional strength to aid recovery.
What key health lessons do you like to impart to patients?
Prioritise health needs and move!
What do you enjoy about your job?
I have had incredible opportunities to travel and work at some of the biggest sporting events in the world. I love working with people and the variety I get with different sports, personalities, injury types and the clinical reasoning it takes to get someone better.
Tell us a little about your credentials?
I have a Masters in Sports Physiotherapy. I have traveled extensively with athletes nationally and internationally including to three Olympic games. I worked in AFL for 16 years both on game day and rehabilitation. I have taught Pilates to elite AFL players, NSW and Australian Cricket Team and more recently working with boxers through Sports Lab at Alexandria.
I have appeared on Channel 9’s health and lifestyle show “What’s good for You”, ABC’s “Grandstand” and on Dubai Eye’s Sports show, “The Grill”.
What are your extracurricular passions?
Travel, tennis, gym, jogging, paddle boarding and swimming in the ocean.
