Michael Gilbert is a passionate Physiotherapist who works hard to ensure a speedy and complete recovery for his patients. He has worked with numerous athletes predominantly in rugby union and swimming. Michael is an all-round athlete himself, playing weekly indoor soccer, water polo and netball competitions, as well as swimming and running. Whether you’re a professional athlete or weekend warrior, Michael is highly skilled in the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries.
Michael loves working as part of a team and believes communication is vital. Not only with the individual but with trainers and coaches is very important in achieving the best possible outcome.

What do you appreciate about Elevate?
Working within a motivated multi-disciplinary team of health professionals who share the aim of providing the utmost patient care. This gives me the confidence that patients will be able to leave Elevate with the highest quality of treatment.
What is your area of expertise?
I have a background working with all sports injuries with a special interest in dealing with swimmers, specifically in developing screenings for injury prevention and improving performance.
Besides the professional athlete, I enjoy treating the weeknight or weekend athlete. I am a part of an indoor soccer and netball team and support the everyday player move optimally and avoid injury.
What areas do you specialise in or treat?
I specialise in the treatment of the shoulder joint particularly in overhead athletes, as well as spinal injuries including neck and back pain.
What are your core beliefs about wellness and health?
To maintain a healthy active lifestyle, taking into account both social and physical well being.
What mistakes do patients make?
Patients often return back to previous activities and duties before their body is ready. Some injuries may require extended time to rehabilitate.
What key health lessons do you like to impart to patients?
Be aware of what your body is telling you. It is important to get on top of your niggles before they can become longer term problems. Education is key!

Tell us a little about your credentials?
I graduated from the University of Sydney in 2014 with a Masters in Physiotherapy after completing a Bachelor in Health Science. Since finishing I have been working in a sports private practice setting dealing with a broad range of clients. I have worked with multiple rugby union teams both at school and open level as well as looking after state and national swimmers over the last 2 years.
