Sleep disorders – Hope in sight for a waking nightmare

Chronic sleep deprivation has become an ‘‘epidemic’’, contributing to a host of potentially fatal illnesses, hijacking relationships and livelihoods and impacting the Australian economy by an estimated $66.3 billion a year in health bills, lost productivity and wellbeing.  Sleep disorders, from insomnia to obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), affects more than 1.5 million Australians. It is further estimated that 80 percent of people with a sleep disorder are undiagnosed.
